CCaPPTC Membership Criteria

Criteria for Full Membership – Doctoral Programs

The Clinical, Counseling, School, or Combined psychology program is well-established (i.e., ≥5 years) and resides in an institution of higher education in the United States or Canada, offering Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology training at the doctoral level.

The doctoral program is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), Canadian Psychological Association (CPA), and/or Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS).

The doctoral program has a minimally-sized cadre of identifiable faculty with expertise in Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology (i.e., minimum of 2 continuing/permanent, full-time supervising faculty).

The doctoral program has a history of producing Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology professionals (i.e., minimum of 5 program graduates over the past 5 years) that have completed the training curriculum as described in criterion 5.

The doctoral program offers training at the level of either a Major Area of Study [i.e., ≥4 Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (CCAP) courses, ≥3 CCAP practica, and a CCAP-related dissertation or research project] or Emphasis (i.e., ≥3 CCAP courses and ≥2 CCAP practica) in accordance with the Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology Taxonomy.*
*Doctoral programs that offer substantial elements of the Major Area of Study or Emphasis level of training but with a curriculum that does not definitively or entirely meet the stated criteria for the Emphasis level per the Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology Taxonomy may choose to explain how the program’s coursework, experiential training activities, and/or research experiences approximate or achieve the essence of the Emphasis level of training. Admission to Full Membership for such programs will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the CCaPPTC Board of Directors. Alternatively, doctoral programs that offer training at the Experience or Exposure level in accordance with the Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology Taxonomy may be eligible for Associate Membership.
Note. Doctoral programs that do not meet criteria for Full Membership [e.g., programs that are more recently established (i.e., < 5 years), that have not yet achieved accreditation, and/or have fewer than 5 program graduates over the past 5 years] may be eligible for Associate Membership.
Criteria for Associate Membership – Doctoral Programs
Doctoral programs that do not meet criteria for Full Membership [e.g., programs that are more recently established (e.g., < 5 years), that have not yet achieved accreditation, and/or with fewer than 5 program graduates over the past 5 years] are eligible for Associate Membership if they meet the following criteria:

The Clinical, Counseling, School, or Combined psychology program resides in an institution of higher education in the United States or Canada, offering Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology training at the doctoral level.

The doctoral program has a minimally-sized cadre of identifiable faculty with expertise in Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology (i.e., minimum of 2 continuing/permanent, full-time supervising faculty).

The doctoral program offers training at least at the level of Experience [i.e., ≥1 Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (CCAP) course and ≥1 CCAP practicum] or Exposure (≥1 CCAP course OR ≥ 1 CCAP practicum) in accordance with the Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology Taxonomy.
Criteria for Full Membership – Internship Programs

The program is well-established (i.e., ≥3 years), resides in the United States or Canada, and offers Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology training at the doctoral internship level.

The internship program is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA).

The internship program has a minimally-sized cadre of identifiable faculty with expertise in Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology (i.e., minimum of 2 supervising faculty).

The internship program has a history of producing Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology professionals (i.e., minimum of 5 program graduates trained in Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology over the past 5 years).

The internship program offers training at the level of either a Major Area of Study (i.e., ≥50% of supervised experience in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology) or Emphasis (i.e., ≥30% to ≤ 50% of supervised experience in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology) in accordance with the Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology Taxonomy.
Note: Internship programs that offer training at the Experience or Exposure level in accordance with the Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology Taxonomy or that otherwise do not meet criteria for Full Membership [e.g., programs that are more recently established (i.e., < 3 years), that have not yet achieved accreditation, and/or have fewer than 5 program graduates over the past 5 years] may be eligible for Associate Membership.
Criteria for Associate Membership – Internship Programs
Internship programs that do not meet criteria for Full Membership [e.g., programs that are more recently established (i.e., < 3 years), that have not yet achieved accreditation, and/or with fewer than 5 program graduates over the past 5 years] are eligible for Associate Membership if they meet the following criteria:

The internship program resides in the United States or Canada, and offers Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology training at the doctoral internship level.

The internship program has a minimally sized cadre of identifiable faculty with expertise in Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology (i.e., minimum of 2 supervising faculty).

The internship program offers training at the level of either Experience or Exposure (i.e., ≥5% and <30% of supervised experience in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology) in accordance with the Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology Taxonomy.
Criteria for Full Membership – Postdoctoral Programs

The program is well-established (i.e., ≥3 years), resides in the United States or Canada, and offers Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology training at the postdoctoral level.

The postdoctoral program has a minimally sized cadre of identifiable faculty with expertise in Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology (i.e., minimum of 2 supervising faculty).

The postdoctoral program has a history of producing Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology professionals (i.e., minimum of 3 program graduates trained in Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology over the past 5 years).

The postdoctoral program offers training at the level of a Major Area of Study in accordance with the Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology Taxonomy (i.e., ≥80%-100% of supervised experience in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology.
Note: Postdoctoral programs that offer training with <80% of supervised experience in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology or that otherwise do not meet criteria for Full Membership [e.g., programs that are more recently established (i.e., < 3 years) and/or have fewer than 3 program graduates over the past 5 years] may be eligible for Associate Membership.
Criteria for Associate Membership – Postdoctoral Programs
Postdoctoral programs that do not meet criteria for Full Membership [e.g., programs that offer training with <80% of supervised experience in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, that are more recently established (i.e., < 3 years), and/or have fewer than 3 program graduates over the past 5 years] are eligible for Associate Membership if they meet the following criteria:

The program resides in the United States or Canada and offers Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology training at the postdoctoral level.

The postdoctoral program has a minimally sized cadre of identifiable faculty with expertise in Clinical Child and/or Pediatric Psychology (i.e., minimum of 2 supervising faculty).

The internship program offers training with ≥10% and <80% of supervised experience in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology.
